Sediment Thickness Map
The sequestration project areas are located throughout the region in areas where sediment layers are thick above basement rocks. Areas such as the Williston Basin in north eastern Montana and western North Dakota, the Powder River Basin in north eastern Wyoming, and the Green River, Great Divide, and Washakie Basins in south western Wyoming all contain deep sediments that have high potential for carbon storage in saline aquifers.
