Well Completion and CO2 Testing

Last week, the Big Sky Carbon Storage project kicked-off the completion phase of the first carbon dioxide (CO2) production well at the Kevin Dome field site. Beginning with a “complete the well on paper” meeting in Shelby, Montana, Big Sky Carbon representatives, partnership leaders, and service companies met to plan and review a detailed completion work strategy for CO2 testing at the well.

The team plans to perforate and take gas and fluid samples from selected intervals in the Duperow formation. The gas and fluid samples will be analyzed for their chemical composition to gain a better understanding of the reservoir characteristics and properties.

With industry professionals and expert consultants on-hand, the planning meeting was a productive first step towards reaching a critical milestone for the Kevin Dome Storage Project: CO2 production. As the team advances into this next phase of work, be sure to check back in for ongoing progress reports.
