| Mr. Randy D. Lee is the team lead for the Geospatial Science and Engineering Team at Idaho National Laboratory. He has thirteen years of experience as a geographic information system (GIS) analyst and has expertise in cartography; spatial data analysis; image processing; web-enabled map application development; global positioning system (GPS) data collection; computer graphics; and spatial data acquisition, conversion and management. Currently, his primary responsibilities include developing spatial analysis capabilities and spatial information systems, as well as managing and growing a team of GIS, remote sensing, and application developers. He is also developing a GIS database of geologic sinks for the National Carbon Sequestration Program–Big Sky Partnership.
Recent activities include developing a geospatial database of potential low head/low power for the entire United States, and a Virtual Hydropower Prospecting Tool for analyzing and visualizing hydropower potential. He is also developing a Web-based GIS tool for accessing, visualizing, and analyzing Selenium contamination in the phosphate-mining region of Southeast Idaho in conjunction with the Idaho Mining Association, EPA, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, BLM, and the U.S. Forest Service. Mr. Lee is a member of the DOE Core GIS Users Group, a group of GIS professionals from across the DOE complex tasked by the Office of the Chief Information Officer with developing standards for geospatial data management and sharing under the President’s E-Gov initiative.
Mr. Lee received his Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1991.
