Kevin Dome Study

Montana Kevin Dome Characterization Study:

Kevin Dome, located in northern Montana, is a deep saline aquifer and provides a potential source of large-scale geologic sequestration. The storage of CO2 in subsurface geologic formations, such as Kevin Dome Photodeep saline aquifers, reservoirs, and sinks, is a naturally occurring process. The Partnership’s research efforts in the Kevin Dome focus on the environmental viability and capacity for analogous settings to permanently store injected CO2. In order to better understand the circumstances, continuity, and stability of natural occurring CO2 in the formation, the BSCSP research team utilizes existing records regarding geologic structure and activity, as well as quantifiable data on the composition, distribution, and volume of the geologic feature. A static model, representational of the carbon sequestration potential of the Kevin Dome, will be used for similar geologic features in the region.
