The Big Sky Partnership has geologic and terrestrial carbon sequestration projects in Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington, and efforts are underway to test several approaches to carbon sequestration. The new interactive map combines data layers from several sources to provide greater custom mapping functionality. In a single application you can explore CO2 point sources such as industrial facilities (cement plants, coal-fired electric plants, petroleum processing plants, and even sugar and paper production plants) and view carbon sinks currently under investigation. You can view sinks and sources in relation to infrastructure and geologic formations, regional demographics, energy use, and land ownership more!
The browser-based mapping application allows you to:
- Navigate and explore aspects of our regional characterization data through a user-friendly interface
- Change base maps between topographic maps, aerial imagery, street maps and more
- Click individual map elements directly on map to view pop-up window containing attributes of features
- Measure distances between map elements
- Create and print your own map using the Map Contents window and toolbar in the bottom left

The Carbon Atlas interactive map was developed by using ESRI ArcGIS Server, version 10.1 and the ArcGIS API for Silverlight. This software package enables organizations to use web-oriented spatial data services to produce internet-based mapping interfaces. BSCSP will continue to increase the functionality of the interactive map by developing geo-processing capabilities and updating the user interface functionality.
